Communications/Events Coordinator – Employment Opportunity

George Gordon First Nation (GGFN) is seeking a highly motivated individual for the Communications/Events Coordinator. The Communications/Events Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Operations. The Communications/Events Coordinator is primarily responsible for creating and disseminating internal and external communication material, and also supervising and overseeing the planning, production, promotion, profitability and over all coordination of George Gordon First Nation events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop communication plans and oversee daily administration of the plan
  • Draft, edit, submit proposals
  • Oversee the development, management, and maintenance of all online communication vehicles, including but not limited to:
  • The George Gordon First Nation website, Email templates , Social media accounts (including Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc.)
  • Plan, develop and execute internal communications with employees consistent with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all materials are developed and distributed according to an appropriate timeline
  • Measure the effectiveness of the George Gordon First nation communications strategy
  • Produce reports for internal analysis.
  • Understand and use media format and form requirements.
  • Implement and develop new communication programs, including new direct mail, social media, and other initiatives.
  • Analyze new potential new products/media to enhance the communications work of George Gordon First Nation.
  • Oversee the coordination of events including conferences, seminars, dinners, training as needed.
  • Maintain vendors, and suppliers ( builders, caterers, delegates, speakers) lists.
  • Administer event budgets, and ensure it is maximized.
  • Source venues, obitain quotes and conduct site visits.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate event files such as databases, contacts and financial information.
  • Co-ordinate the delivery to and from events
  • Periodically provide administrative support to other members of event planning staff.
  • Oversee financial and project management of events.
  • Produce reports on events which include obstacles and opportunities encountered.
  • Adhere to all George Gordon First Nation Policies and Procedure
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post secondary degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • 1 -2 years direct work experience in a communication role, and or event planning role
  • Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of the preparation of communication streams
  • Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly and ensure they are clearly communicated to an audience
  • Computer literate, including effective working skills of MS Suites (Word, Excel, Power point, email and Adobe products).
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of effective communications and media, publicity advertising ,policies, education, community relations, demonstration, organization structure.
  • Proven ability to create, manage, and implement budgets

Salary will be based on experience, training, and education.
